New Year New You – Guide to Healthier Makeup
What do you think of when you hear the words New Year New You? I’m sure your thinking diet or lifestyle change. Right? Thats what came to mind. I don’t want to talk diets with you, because well, anyone can choose their own diet. Let’s take it a step further and talk about other wellness areas. You know, subtle differences that can be easily changed to make a healthier You!
Being a dermatology nurse for 14 years has taught me so much about skincare health. The number one question I was always asked was What kind of skin care should I use? and the second question, What makeup do you recommend? Well, the first is another blog post entirely Skin Care tips from a Dermatology Nurse. The second I’m sharing with you today.
What Makeup Should I use?
I want to let you in on a little secret. There is a makeup brand that not only gives you gorgeous coverage and color, but… also helps your skin! Were talking makeup that helps clear up acne! Yasss. What is this miracle brand? It’s none other than jane iredale The Skincare Makeup

You can’t go wrong with a brand that has “skin care makeup” in their name!
This brand is embraced by both Dermatologists and Plstic Surgeons alike for its ability to “cover, protect, and soothe” the skin. Definitely a philosophy that I can stand behind.
Now that I have convinced you this brand of makeup is nothing short of amazing, you’r probably wondering why? What sets it apart from the rest? I’m going to give you one word Mineral. By definition Mineral is: noun, a solid inorganic substance of natural occurrence. Now, I’m no scientist. But…the natural occurrence part does make me a little more at ease knowing that I am applying something “natural” to my face. I think it’s best described by InStyle:
Technically, most makeup is “mineral” makeup as it contains many of the same elements as mineral-based formulas, the differences lie in the ingredients that the mineral foundations leave out. Because mineral makeup doesn’t include parabens, fragrance, talc, preservatives, oil, or other harsh chemicals, they’re ideal for sensitive or breakout-prone skin types that often become irritated with heavier formulas.
Yes, I have personally used Jane Iredale in my everyday life…
The perks of working in a Dermatology setting is that you get to try everything. Yup, including the makeup! The turning point for me was using the makeup immediately after a microdermabrasion session. You heard that right, my delicate skin was compromised by a procedure. I was able to immediately apply Jane Iredale Mineral Makeup to combat post procedure redness and soothe the skin. As an added bonus their makeup does contain an SPF!! #WOW. From that point on I have not looked back! I know that I am helping and protecting my skin for the long haul and my skin will Thank Me later.
I definitely don’t want to stop there.
Jane Iredale has a very extensive color line sure to meet the needs of every person. I love that all of the colors are universal and work well with all skin tones. There are products for both the sheer makeup lovers who prefer a more natural look. And something for those who prefer a little more coverage. Here is a small sampling from the janeiredale.com website, to show just how amazing this line really is.
There is also an extensive list of formulations available from Creams, powders, lotions and Crayons. Anything that our hearts desire.
Last But not Least…Price Point
Let’s just put it this way…I’m a Stay at home mom blogger. Enough said! No really, It is comperable to any beauty counter price at the mall. And hello, this makeup comes with the support from Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons alike. Ladies this is a #winwin for us. Lets all start this new year off right and pave the way to an overall healthier “US” starting with our makeup!!

It definitely is a fun way!! And it doesn’t include the word “diet” lol.
Jane Iredale sounds like a great brand. I like that the brand is both skincare AND makeup. I’m looking at the colors right now and I see some shades that would work well for my Asian skin tone!
It really is, I don’t think I’m ever looking back!
Now I want to try jane iredale makeup! I love a company that truly cares about quality and care. I mean we put this on our face for the majority of the day!
Yes, exactly!! I came to that same realization. I wanted to help out my fellow mamas!
I have never thought of makeup this way before. Very interesting.
Thank You!1 Yes, definitely a different perspective!
I’ve used this brand too and like it. Unfortunately, it’s not stocked in too many places where I live and I hate buying makeup online – I’ve got to try it in person! So that means that more often than not, I’m using more accessible brands like MAC and Bobbi Brown.
I get you! Yes, it’s hard to purchase new colors online. I like to go to the local places that carry Jane Iredale like physicians offices and spas. If you want to find one near you check out this link.

Love these tips because I’m not much of an expert when it comes to makeup! There is actually a local spa here in Sudbury La Renaissance and the brand they carry is Jane Iredale so I will have to go take a closer look! I’m happy I actually recognize the name 🙂 Thanks so much!
